Getting A Fast Start

Ok...so now what? If you haven't already started a new game, do so. When you first start a game, choose your opponents wisely; some are more challenging than others.

So there you are on your little piece of dirt in the universe. What you see is your home planet with fully built installations, a transport and a starbase in orbit with your fighter parked on your starbase. Depending on how many fighters per team you selected, you may have a wingman or two which will fly off on a mission or remain near you. The first thing you do in your fighter is assume the flying position. Place your right hand on the 10-key pad on the right side of your keyboard. Got it? Ok...now place your left hand in it's standard typing position with your index finger hovering over your 'F' key. Below is a map of the keys you will use during your missions.

You see the orbital station? That's called a Starbase. That little bump in the middle is your fighter. The first thing you need is a crash course in flying. Gently thrust away from the Starbase. Watch the gravity and don't go too far yet. Try landing on the planet. Let your fighter drift toward the planet and slow yourself down with your thrusters. The goal is to land thruster first like the lunar module. Zoom your view out and check for any nearby planets. Green planets are best to take first because they actually produce materials. Once you find a nearby planet, zoom back in and fly your fighter towards the planet. Land on the planet and your flag will be planted as you claim it for your empire. Up to three available freighters will be dispatched and head toward the newly conquered planet. Your empire has started to expand! In the beginning, it's wise to only take one or two key planets since you only have a couple of freighters. Too many gray planets will take too long to build up and the outposts will most likely be destroyed by some grotesque aliens before they can adequately defend themselves.

Ok, so now you've taken a planet and started your expansion. It may be wise to defend the planet you've just taken until your transports arrive and establish a base. Our xenopsychologists have noticed certain behavior patterns in our enemies and one is that they put a high priority on undefended green worlds. Guard them well for the expansion of the Empire! Once a base is established, you are free to take the battle to the enemy. Seek out and destroy the nearest enemy installation. These and other missions will be given to you in your quest for total domination.
